Firm's History

William Levan Byrd, CPA, PC is a professional services corporation (accounting) licensed in the Commonwealth of Virginia, State of South Carolina and District of Columbia. The firm was organized in 1987 as an outgrowth of William Levan Byrd & Company, Inc., an income tax consulting firm. Collectively, the firm has over 25 years experience in the areas of accounting/auditing/taxation. The practice is located at 207 East Liberty, Sumter, S. C. In April 2000, the firm was admitted into the U.S. Small Business Administration 8 (a) program as a certified minority small business.

Firm's Management

William Levan Byrd is the Managing Consultant of this firm. He is a licensed Certified Public Accountant (CPA), Certified Management Accountant (CMA), and has earned a Master of Business Administration (MBA) degree in Accounting with distinction from Augusta State University. He has also completed further studies in taxation at New York University. He is a former Internal Revenue Service (IRS) Agent.

Previous honors and awards have included being selected an Outstanding Young Man of America (1985) and Who’s Who in the Southeast (1991).

He has been active with the following programs; (1) Urban League’s Black Executive Exchange Program (BEEP) - Visiting Professor, (2) Junior Achievement’s Project Business Teacher, and (3) INROADS - Mentor and Facilitator. He is a member of the Executive Board and Chairman of the Audit Committee of the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. and a member of its Pension Board and Property and Finance Committee. He is also former Chairman of the Minority Initiatives Committee of the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants and a former member of the AICPA’s Minority Initiatives Committee. He is a former President of the Richmond Chapter of the National Black MBA Association, Inc. Mr. Byrd is also a former member of the AICPA's Group of 100.

Mr. Byrd has an extensive background in the areas of auditing, small business consulting, business taxation, financial and estate planning, strategic planning, employee benefits planning and administration, and income tax preparation and consultation. He serve’s on the Small Business Council of the Greater Sumter Chamber of Commerce and the Sumter City/County Tax Accommodations Board.
